Balinese Jinggo Rice Food Recipe

Bali is one of the places visited by many tourists to foreign countries. Apart from being a tourist attraction, Bali also has a diverse culture. The island of Bali also has many diverse foods, one of which is jingo rice.

Indonesia does have many islands with different customs, cultures and beliefs that vary to the special food of their respective regions.

One of the typical Balinese food is jingo rice. Nasi jingo has been around since the 1980s. The first time jingo rice was sold on Jalan Gajah Mada, Denpasar. There is also a mention that the name of this food is taken from a movie title “Djanggo” which was popular at that time.

Nasi jingo is usually served in banana leaf packaging with a fistful of white rice filled with side dishes and chili sauce.

This culinary is quite special, because it is often present at the celebration of Ngaben ceremonies, birthdays, or ogoh-ogoh performance processions. Here’s how to make it along with the ingredients that must be prepared.

Crunchy Ingredients:

200 grams of coarse grated coconut
2 bay leaves
1 cm galangal, crushed

1 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of oil for sauteing
1 ΒΌ teaspoon granulated sugar
The ground spice for serundeng:

5 red onions
4 curly red chilies
3 cloves of garlic
